Shin-Yi
Shin-Yi Yang, who plays both guqin and guzheng, is the founder of the Boston Guzheng Ensemble. She is the two-time winner of the Traditional Arts Apprenticeship given by the Massachusetts Cultural Council's Folk Arts and Heritage Program, the 2008 Chinese Culture Connection Award, and was once interviewed by the WGBH radio station's program called "Arts and Ideas".
Shin-Yi is a musician who enjoys both ethnic and contemporary music. As a well-known ethnic musician in the greater Boston area, she gives performances and lecture demonstrations in different colleges and halls such as Yale University, Boston University, New England Conservatory, Wellesley College, Paine Hall and Sanders Theatre at Harvard University, M.I.T. Kresge Auditorium and in a variety of museums. She also hosts guqin gatherings in Boston to promote traditional Chinese guqin music and culture. As a contemporary musician, she has given premieres of new compositions and has participated in various new projects with other contemporary artists. She has performed and toured with the IIIZ+ to France and performed at the 38e Rugissants Festival. She is also one of the artists of the Chinese Cultural Connection, a local organization that promotes Chinese culture.
